Miracle Diaries – What I learnt from Gabrielle Bernstein and her May Cause Miracles Course

When you set on a path of listening to your heart and manifesting your true life purpose, the Universe reciprocates. I hit my low last year and it was when I realized what my true life purpose was  – “It is making people realize their full potential and the light that is inside them”. And when I started working towards it, the Universe put this course in my path – Holistic Life Coaching Course by University of Wellness. I am just nine weeks into this course and I can see my world changing already.

One of the courses included in the curriculum was May Cause Miracles by Gabrielle Bernstein. It is a 40 day guidebook which offers compelling message that anything is indeed possible with a few simple shifts  in our life. The book guides you with a morning and evening exercise each day for 40 days. And each week is dedicated to one important aspect of our life – body, relationships, finance etc.

These 40 days were raw, true and so vulnerable for me. I unfolded so many inner demons, faced deep seated fears and at the end was amazed at the humongous work I did on myself.

I wanted to share my journey so that at least one of you is inspired out there and says yes to miracles by working on yourself first –

Week One  – Witness Your Fear

Gabby Bernstein
Week one was sitting down and writing all the fears you have in life. I realized when you sit down to journal, deeper fears which you don’t want to acknowledge come up to the surface. The fears which you didn’t want to face, the fears which you locked up down there afraid to let them out. Week one made me realize how my fear governs my thoughts and how I feel when I am under it’s influence. The fear of failure came up for me. A simple affirmation – “I am willing to see love instead of this” brought back the calmness.

Week Two – Self Love

May Cause Miracles
Week two made me realize the importance of self love. I am a perfectionist and I beat up myself for every small imperfection. I realized I have been my own self critic, demeaning my self worth. It also made me realize that I am not taking good care of my body.  I doubted my capabilities and was harsh on myself when I failed at something. “I am willing to let go of my self-doubt. I surrender to self love” became my mantra for an entire week. I added one thing in my routine which was all about self love and it helped tremendously. Sometimes we are too brutal on ourselves and week two taught me to be gentle and let go.

Week Three – The Body

Gabrielle Bernstein
This was a BIGGIE for me and I wrote a separate post on how I let go of my padded bras and finally made peace with my body the way it is! You can read it here –

Why I got rid of my Padded Bras, after Clinging to them for 15 plus years

It took courage and a lot of self love to finally be free of the body image I had made for myself.

Week Four – Romance and Relationships

Forgiveness
Week four was revolutionary for me. Though when it came to romance, I was well sorted and was already doing what Gabby mentioned in the book. It was the ‘other’ relationships which needed healing. It was the judgement I threw on others and the way I compared myself with them. It was forgiving those who have behaved so inhumanly with my grandparents and which I never thought I will be able to do EVER in this life at least. It was about attacking others and passing condescending remarks. It was about not making or feeling myself to be special compared to others and making the foundation of oneness.

I love my Papa to the moon and back. But during this course I realized that I have had a grudge against him for taking some wrong financial decisions while we were growing up. Till date I never realized I had this inside me. This realization was something which turned my world upside down. I let go of this feeling and forgave myself for having this grudge and Papa. I set myself free.

Week Five – Financial Abundance

Lack mentality

Well, my sister and me grew up in financial abundance earlier and then things changed. While growing up I had this limiting belief about money which made me curtail all my wishes. I did not take the art class in school because I thought it will burden my dad financially. I went to the dentist the first time when I started earning. I carried my lack mentality with me till now. I sabotaged all the things meant for self improvement saying that I do not have enough money for this. The moment I realized about my lack mentality, my entire life came in front of my eyes – the courses I didn’t take, the training sessions I said no to and the learning opportunities I denied because I thought I could not ‘afford’ it. I removed my blocks around money the very same moment.

Week Six – Miracle Worker Mindset

Miracle Worker

The last week was maintaining all the learnings and patting your back on the immense work I did during these 40 days! Ya, cheers to me 🙂
It also laid the foundation of continuing with this miracle mindset and let miracles happen!

It was intense and I am so self aware now of my thoughts. Whenever a fear based thought crosses my mind, I say to myself – “Love did not create this”. And see the shift within me.

I am ready to welcome the miracles in my life right now. Would you like to join me too?

Lessons I am learning from the Spring

Spring is here and this is the first time my husband and me are experiencing it in the US! Before this we were in Florida for 3 years and what we experienced all year long was just SUMMER 😛

I am excited and awestruck looking at the spring blossoms in Chicago, soaking up in the color and vitality and gazing at beautiful flowers all around. It is indeed a time of renewal and letting go of things that don’t serve us anymore. It reminds me of a rebirth or reincarnation. It is my first spring and I cannot be more elated about it!

Spring is teaching me a lot of life lessons too and here is what I am learning  –

#Lesson 1 – Humility

The other day I saw a bunch of yellow flowers in full bloom and I was so sure they were daffodils. I have never seen daffodils in real life before but those bright yellow flowers somehow fit the bill of William Wordsworth’s description of daffodils in his poem ‘Daffodils’. Those daffodils flowers were bent a little down. Beautiful as they were and yet they didn’t show the pride. I thought they were giving a lesson in humility and trying to tell me, “I know I am bright, beautiful and desirable. But my true beauty lies in my humility and hence I don’t have a haughty stance. I keep my head low with humility and sparkle my inner beauty”.

Always be humble and don’t let pride take over!

#Lesson 2 – The tough season prepares us for our best

For the past 5 months, the season here was severe. No tree had one leaf left on it. Every tree was stark naked. The snow and the harsh winds blew and yet the trees stood strong. And now slowly, buds are blooming and leaflets are rising up. Nature never fails to surprise me! For 5 months the trees did not have leaves to prepare the food, it stored all its nutrition and survived this extreme weather only to transform beautifully the way it is today.

Those tiny leaflets on each tree give me hope that my tough times are preparing me for the best times in my life!

#Lesson 3 – You can always start over

Nature started all over again during spring! New leaves, new flowers, new energy – in short a new life. We can start over too. Why not let the spring guide our life and let go of the things no longer serving us and start over? How about starting over life by doing what you love? What about that toxic relationship which needs to be shed to let our spring bloom? Or that habit of ours which isn’t allowing us to grow into our full bloom?

Start over and welcome the spring in your life!

#Lesson 4 – It is time to sing just like the birds are doing!

Every morning I wake up to the chirping and humming of birds. Tiny birds with such gorgeous colors fluttering from tree to tree and sometimes visiting my patio. I have seen huge white and grey birds in Florida, but never such tiny timid vibrant birds. It just melts my heart. These birds seem to be singing their heart out not bothering about anyone! The lesson I learnt from them is sing the song of your soul! What is that your soul is yearning to do? Get up and do that! Sing the song your soul wants you to sing!

Sing the song of your soul and sing it as if no one is listening.

#Lesson 5 – Be your own beautiful self

Spring time is the time when wildflowers bloom too! It is a tiny flower which might look a little dull in front of the exotic cherry blossom and other colorful flowers. But the wildflower doesn’t care! It continues to be it’s own beautiful self! It does not compare itself with others and is happy in its own world!

Be your own beautiful self, don’t let the world tell you otherwise!

My first spring and I am thrilled to learn so many life lessons! My every gaze looking at the nature fills my heart and soul with so much of gratitude, love and renewed energy!

What spring lessons are you learning this season?

Feel Blessed with this 2 Minute Gratitude Exercise

I dedicated one entire year for gratitude in my ‘word of the year’ exercise. And ever since then gratitude has become an integral part of my life. In good as well as bad times, it is the thankfulness towards the good in life that has brought me out of the toughest situations.

But a lot of times, we get so carried away in our miseries and sorrow that we forget to look at the good things in life. In all the chaos, we forget to be thankful for what we do have and simply concentrate on our shortcomings.

You have to remember that even in the worst of our times, there will be something to thank about. Maybe that we have food on our table or that our loved ones are with us to help us through the bad times or that we are not at war. One thing to be thankful each day!

I started with a gratitude exercise few months back and thought of sharing the same with you all today. It is very simple, easy and best part is does not need more than 2 minutes. You don’t even need any pen or paper.

So here is the Gratitude Exercise:

gratitude-exercise

Every night when you get to your bed, just close your eyes and remember all the good things or blessings of the day. Visualize each of those blessings and at the end of it say ‘Thank you’ from the bottom of your heart. You may thank God if you believe in one or just a simple ‘Thank You’ acknowledging the good is all what is needed.

There will be days when you will be euphoric and there will be so much thank for! But there will also be days when you will feel life is in the dumps. Nevertheless, there will be something to thank for on that day.

As you regularly do this exercise, you will start appreciating your life. You will start being thankful to so many minute things which we take granted every single day. Doing this exercise while sleeping has it’s own wonderful effects. However stressful the day maybe, thinking about the good times of the day before sleeping will calm your mind and body. Your body will get relaxed and a good night’s sleep is ensured. The next day you will wake up with renewed energy 🙂

Try this exercise as you don’t have anything to lose here. It doesn’t even require any investment or props. And please don’t tell me you don’t have the time. Start this exercise and let me know how you feel after continuing the practice for a month at least!

Thank You! 🙂

A Recap on Forgiveness and My WORD for 2017!

As many of you know I choose a word every year since 2015. The whole idea of choosing a word instead of some 10 new year resolutions is being true to yourself and sticking to this one singular goal. This one word represents who you want to be and how you want to live.

My word for 2016 was ‘Forgiveness’ and here are some lessons I learnt in my journey so far –

  1. Forgiveness is not a cake walk. It is a difficult job. Rage and revenge surge within you and it is difficult to keep those strong feelings aside and forgive someone.
  2. Forgiveness is not for ‘them’ but rather for ‘you’. It does not matter if the other person does not accept your sorry or doesn’t respect your forgiveness. What matters is how light you feel after shedding off those extreme negative feelings from within you.
  3. Saying sorry is as important as forgiving someone. Don’t let your ego play with your mind. Own up your mistake and say sorry.
  4. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you are weak, it actually makes you the bigger person!

I continue with my forgiveness and gratitude journey. And I have been thinking hard about the word for this year. It took some time to choose, but nevertheless I am happy that I chose this word for 2017.

So, my word for 2017 isMindfulness‘!

Why I chose this word? With the advent of the smartphone and the fast paced life, we have stopped being in the present and almost forgotten to enjoy the current moment. We are running after a mirage, wanting something more or thinking that we will be happy in the future. Well, I want to break that chain. I want to be mindful of the present moment, of what I am doing currently and be focused. I don’t want my hands to go involuntarily to my mobile phone while watching the movie or be thinking about my upcoming Toastmasters speech while I am cooking. I want to be mindful of what I am eating and not just have my food half heartedly. I don’t want to worry about the pending action items while I am enjoying my coffee.

In simple words, I want to be mindful of everything I do right from brushing my teeth to researching for my next article.

I want to be here, in the present! I want to be mindful in 2017!

There is no Tomorrow!

Have you been wanting to do something since ages and have not been able to do it yet? It might be due to time constraint or resources crunch or you just think you are not ready for it! I do too…..most of the times. But in the past one week I have learned that, ‘There is no tomorrow’…so don’t wait to have enough money, to retire, to stabilize in your job….just go for it!

We met with a friend yesterday. Devesh is Sujoy’s football buddy and one of the supporters and motivators for me when I first started writing. It was a football marathon yesterday when he was home for dinner. But you know what struck me the most of yesterday’s meeting? It is the guy himself! This guy wakes up every day in Chicago cold at 5.30 am and goes to play squash or hits the gym. This guy takes every opportunity to travel and add experiences to his kitty. Thanksgiving weekend he went on the historic Route 66 road trip and I was awestruck. Here is a person who is living the present! Doing what he wants, putting efforts for it and being in the present! It was an eye opener for me! It was fun too catching up with him 🙂

That’s him 🙂

A few weeks ago, I had a discovery call with Ro Ferrelli of the Feed Her Soul blog. Ro is an Intuitive Personal Coach for women only. She is amazing and you should have a look at her blog for some life changing ideas and thoughts. During the call with her I said, I have been wanting to do Kundalini Yoga since a while but haven’t come to it yet. She said, “The first thing you are going to do after hanging up the call is go and look for a Kundalini Yoga class. Then you will not feel your life is at a standstill. Get up and do it RIGHT AWAY“. That pumped me up and I went on internet and searched for the classes, looked at some self teach youtube videos and got in the zone. Just doing the research felt so good. It felt that I have accomplished something. That a new road has been opened for me. So yes, do it now because there is no tomorrow.

Yesterday I spoke with a spiritual guide too, thanks to my childhood buddy Pooja who introduced me to him. He told me about a manifestation technique which is really simple and does not need any monetary investment or a dozen of resources. The only prerequisite is you should have faith. It was a Wednesday and I have special affinity for Thursdays being a Datta Guru Day. I first thought let’s start from tomorrow i.e. Thursday. But then I thought what if today would have been a Friday. Wouldn’t it have been foolish to waste 6 days to start the technique only because I feel Thursdays are holy. So I started right away with the manifestation technique. It felt good. I did not wait for the tomorrow!

I am sharing the manifestation technique here as shared by the Spiritual Guru –

How to manifest a wish through the Magical Technique of “Glass of Water”

The only prerequisite is ‘You should have faith’.

Friends we are constantly manifesting things all the time. The trouble is, if you’re constantly thinking about all the disasters and bad things that could happen, that’s the kind of negativity you will attract. The opposite experience happens when you think high-level thoughts, like “I rock!” When you think and feel “I rock,” you radiate a Positive energy of confidence; in turn, you attract great experiences and good fortune into your life.

Each thought you have informs your energy, and your energy manifests it into your experiences. Your thoughts and energy create your reality.

Here’s what you do:

1) First, take a piece of paper. Write down something you need or a wish you want to come true.
Write it as if it were an affirmation. If you’re working on a project and need creative ideas, you can write something like “I’m full of inspiration and creativity.”

2) Get a glass and fill it with clear water. Attach the paper with your affirmation or wish on it to the glass.

3) Rub your palms together to activate the energy flow in your hands, and place them on the glass of water. Be sure to use both hands.

4) Say the affirmation or wish out loud or silently. But if you use your voice, you’ll give it more power.

5) Visualize what it is you want to achieve while sending your energy towards the water in the glass.

6) Drink the water.

Do all steps 1 to 6 every morning when you wake up, and every evening before you go to sleep.

Two weeks should be enough for small wishes, but larger wishes may take up to three months or longer depending on their complexity.

Hope it helps as many out there looking for manifesting their wishes. If you need help in writing the wish into an affirmation format, buzz me and I will help you.

So what it is that you have been wanting to do since long? Go, get up and do it. Let me know how you feel after doing it! Best of Luck 🙂

The surreal story of the sunset!

We had the opportunity of visiting Naples yesterday and this by far has been the best beach we have visited in Florida till date! We traveled a little west from our current place to experience the sunset on the beach, a phenomenon which we cannot witness on the beaches on the east side of Florida!

I can talk all about the new traveling gang, the food, the endless water play, the gorgeous shell pickings and the amount of fun we had in a one day trip. But for this moment, I just want to relive that awe-inspiring sunset we witnessed yesterday.

When the sun was about to set, we were at the pier which is built in such a way that the sun sets just in the centre of the pier! Soon we realized, we won’t be able to devour the beauty of the sunset from the pier as there were many heads in between blocking our view continuously. So we ran! Ran fast down to the sands, to experience the sunset at a full panoramic canvas from below the pier. It was just a couple of minutes before the sun was going to call it a day and we wanted to make sure that we don’t miss the view.

We reached the beach below just in time and waited for the bright glorious sun to sink in the waters. Those handful moments of the sunset will be etched in my mind FOREVER! The bright sun stealthily falling down from the sky to the waters. The sky painted in hues of so many colors – blue, pink, purple, violet, yellow, white and black. The rays of the sun seen from within the clouds. The sun, the sky and the waters in such synchronized harmony. The last few moments when the sun went down were so quick and unbelievable! I felt the time should stop. The moment to be frozen. The grandeur and the elegance of this surreal story to be paused for us to get drunk on the breathtaking piece of nature’s magic!

dsc_0117Image by Sujoy Datta

All the eyes were glued on just one spot and I wondered if all of them are having a stirring feeling deep down their gut? I pondered if all of them are experiencing the glee in their hearts witnessing this unreal canvas? I mused if all of them had that sparkle in their eyes while watching the sun drown? I questioned if all of them felt gratitude in their souls to be alive to see this wonder? Well I don’t know that, but I felt all of it at one time and you can imagine the magnitude of emotions flowing within me in that instant.

Nature never fails to surprise me. However bad a day I might have, at the end of the day nature always comes to rescue. Every element of nature does what it is supposed to do without expecting anything in return. If we cannot learn that from nature, the least we can do is be grateful for it.

Naples will always be a place close to my heart!
